Cathedral oiled oak (Madeira)

Cathedral oiled Oak (Madeira) is a deep brown with a hint of red. The finish is achieved by fuming the oak for 48 hours to create a reactive colour change before applying three coats of clear finishing oil. This is similar to the hvar floor but darker. There are no colour oils involved in the colouring of this oak floor, it is just the chemical reaction of ammonia reacting with the Tannic acid in the oak the caused the colour change. This finish will change colour over time due to the effects of natural ultraviolet light. You will get light and dark tones within individual boards and from one board to another. Over time as the boards mellow down this becomes less apparent. This is a very dark tone floor. Regular cleaning using soap-wash and the use of a clear maintenance oil when required should keep this floor looking good for years to come.
